From peaceful canal-side walks to wooded trails and cascading waterfalls, some of the region’s most beautiful outdoor experiences are just moments from The Lodge at Headwaters.
Whether you’re looking for a relaxing morning walk, a scenic family outing, or a full day of exploration, Boonville’s forests, waterways, and historic trails offer something for every kind of adventurer.
Forestport Feeder Canal Towpath
Follow the historic Black River Feeder Canal along a scenic towpath connecting Boonville and Forestport. Stretching nearly 10 miles, this predominantly level trail travels through quiet woodlands and open fields, with views of the canal and surrounding countryside along the way.
The trail’s relatively flat terrain and multiple access points make it easy to enjoy anything from a short morning walk to a longer day of exploration. Portions of the trail feature stone-dust surfaces, creating a comfortable route for walking, running, and biking.
Perfect For: Leisurely walks, longer hikes, biking, nature photography, and history lovers
Pixley Falls State Park
A short drive from The Lodge brings you to one of the area’s most beloved natural attractions. The centerpiece of Pixley Falls State Park is its picturesque 50-foot waterfall, surrounded by steep wooded hills, a flowing mountain stream, and beautiful forest scenery.
A nature trail winds through the woods and past the falls, while picnic areas provide a lovely place to slow down and enjoy the surroundings. It’s an ideal destination for couples, families, photographers, and anyone looking to experience a little natural magic without committing to an all-day hike.
Perfect For: Waterfall viewing, nature walks, picnics, photography, and family outings
